On June 15th, Rotary Club of Gettysburg distributed the contributions of Rotarians who attended the Multi-District Leadership Conference at the Wyndham Hotel last April in Gettysburg to the non-profit food program, Ruth's Harvest. Ruth’s Harvest Gettysburg is a group of area churches and organizations who provide healthy meals and snacks to food-insecure children. Backpacks of meals are provided to children in the Gettysburg Area School District on weekends. Volunteer teams, including Rotarians from the Gettysburg club, fill backpacks to be provided to the children by the schools on Friday afternoon. After the weekend, children return the empty bags to the school and the process starts over. Rotarians contributed a total of $775.00 to a special fund set up by Rotary Club of Gettysburg at Adams County Community Foundation to enable conferees to make tax deductible contributions during the Multi-District Conference.
Rotary Club of Gettysburg then provided an additional $2,000.00 grant to Ruth's Harvest on June 15th in recognition of the charity's importance to improving the health of the student body and in honor of the Rotarians from across the districts who contributed to the special collection and the Rotary Peace Pole initiative to be dedicated in the future.
