Past President Norm Basso received an award from the North York Club for his dedication to the Rotary Exchange Student Program. Norm commented: “Our club, almost from the beginning, thought it would be important to engage in an international part of Rotary in youth exchange. Over the 33 years of our club, had almost 30 exchange students, inbounds and many outbounds, too, which gave us a global experience of what was happening in the world. And that's the whole purpose of Rotary, to build relationships and peace throughout the world. That's our main mission. And my family, in particular, benefited tremendously from hosting main exchange students and being involved with all the exchange students that were here during the time. And it made it a very special part of the culture of York North Rotary to have those exchange students be part of our club. We hosted 13 kids at our house throughout the years, and I was counselor for the other 15 kids that we had. So it was very engaged, even though they weren't in our house. We were part of their experience here, which was great for us.”
